Aberdare Cables is the largest cable manufacturer in South Africa. Recently Aberdare Cables has expanded its offering by including solar cables, i.e. Solardac Cables Aberdare Cables has undergone rigorous certification activities of Conformity International and successfully completed them. Conformity International (CI) is accredited for solar cables (to SANS/IEC 62930) by SANAS and is the only South African certification body with such an accreditation. In addition to the successfully completed testing Aberdare were able to comply with the audit requirements and received the CI Mark for their solar cables to SANS/IEC 62930. Aberdare Cables is therefore the only South African cable manufacturer to receive certification for solar cables. CI has issued Aberdare Cables a Type 5 certification (the most stringent type of product certification), along with certification for their SANS 1520-1 LV flexible electric trailing cables and SANS 1520-2 MV flexible electric trailing cables (LV and MV mining rubber cables)
Conformity International description
Conformity International (CI) is a SANAS accredited products and services certification body focusing on the electrical, mechanical and civil sectors. It is accredited for a full range of high, medium and low voltage cables to South African and international standards. CI is also accredited for various electrical products, including transformers, switchgear, miniature substations, as well as some mechanical and civil engineering industry products. CI is relatively new but comprised of experts with cumulatively over 300 years of experience in the field of conformity assessment in the technical and engineering industry.
Aberdare Cables was established in 1946 and is a leading South African leading cable manufacturer. Aberdare Cables has 3 manufacturing sites in South Africa, with Customer Service Centres in each province and in Maputo.
The company employs 1500 people and currently holds a Level 1 BBBEE status, with a make-up of 55% Black ownership and 30% Black Women Owned.
In 2016, Aberdare Cables was acquired by a Chinese cable manufacturer, Hengtong. The Hengtong group operates in 120 countries, has 9 overseas manufacturing bases and owns 5 brands, including Aberdare.
